About the SFS

Before the stadium

Originally there was a Sydney Sports Ground which had two grandstands and a grass hill for people to sit and watch the sports. It opened in 1911 and it closed in 1986 because it was getting old and would be replaced with the Sydney Football Stadium. Even Pele played there in 1972 againts the Socceroos and the score was 2-2. Here is a picture of the Sydney Sports Ground in 1937.
